Preceded in death by his Wife Del, his parents, his brother Murray and his niece Louise Lamaga. Walter was born in Winnipeg on January 29, 1919 to John and Mary Hanaway. In 1941 he married Del Slobodian and soon after he joined the R.C.N.V.R. and became a Chief Petty Officer working as a Carpenter on the ships. This position took him to Newfoundland where they spent several years. On his return to Winnipeg, Walter worked for the C.N.R. until his retirement. After his retirement he and Del spent the summers in Ear Falls, Ontario where they managed a Fly-in Fishing Lodge. In the winters they drove to Las Vegas, Nevada. They did this for 22 enjoyable years. Walter was an accomplished craftsman, building most of the furniture in his home and later on as a hobby turning out the most unique wooden bowls for which he won many blue ribbons. It gave him great joy to be working in his workshop on his numerous projects. For the last 16 years he lived in Paradise Village, St. Anne. A special thanks to dear friends from the Village, Joan and Ray Machan and Edie Grier who gave him much support over the years and faithfully right to the end.
