HELEN ELIAS (nee LOEWEN) December 20, 1926 - August 3, 2011 The family of Helen Elias of Winnipeg, MB, formerly of Haskett and Neuhorst, is deeply saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at River East Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry K. Elias and is survived by brothers, Frank, Abe, Cornelius; and sister Tina Penner (John). She leaves to mourn her children, George (Helen), Kate Robinson (Jack), Dave (Brenda), Marilyn, Laura Dorge (Kevin), Judy Barton (Pat) and Phil (Joanne), as well as 14 grand-children and eight great-grandchildren. Helen was born and raised in Neuhorst. She married Henry K. Elias and moved to a farm near Haskett, where she raised seven children. The family moved to Beausejour in the early 1960s, and then on to Winnipeg a few years later where Helen worked as a cook at The University of Manitoba Food Services. She led an extraordinary life of love and work, of sacrifice and nurturing. When Helen retired, she began to show her hidden talents in paintings and other art work that expressed her love of nature. She was a very loving person and will be dearly missed by all her family. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 8 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Neuhorst Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. A special thank you to the staff at River East Personal Care Home for their compassionate care.
