HELEN POLSON (nee MORGAN) Helen Polson died on Friday, August 5, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 92 years. Helen was predeceased by her husband John (1973). Mom is survived by her three daughters Barbara Jean, Judith Ann (Bill) Olfert and Marnie Joan (Ronald) Wall. She will be missed by her grandchildren Tara (Leon), John (Monica), Amanda (Daniel), Daniel and Morgan, and her great-grandchildren Eli, Aidan and Claire. There are also nieces and nephews who will miss her. Mom was born in Brechin, Scotland on October 7, 1918 and immigrated to Canada as an infant. She was the only remaining sibling of James and Christine Morgan of Olive Street in St. James. From a very early age Helen developed a strong independent character. As a young woman she enjoyed horseback, archery, golfing and skiing. Her first days in the work force were spent at T. Eaton Company where she made many friends. Upon leaving Eaton's she began an accounting career at Trans Canada Air (now known as Air Canada) and ended many years later in the grain business at NM Paterson. Mom's independence stood her in good stead in the many trials she encountered throughout her life. Her mobility was severely restricted in her later years. Despite the pain she lived with, her complaints were few. She met each day with the challenge that she would accomplish just a little bit more than she did on the previous day. Right up to the very end she maintained her daily schedule of early rising. She filled her day with whatever activity was available and a few more of her personal choice. Her courage was formidable. Mom will be missed by all who knew her. We are extremely grateful to the staff on 3D at Riverview Health Centre for making her as welcome and as comfortable as possible. We would also like to thank the staff ourselves for making us as welcome as they did. Thanks are due to many - too numerous to mention. However we do want to thank the staff at Misericordia Health Centre and all the paramedics and firefighters who responded on more than one occasion to an emergency call. Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff in Emergency Department at St. Boniface Hospital. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Ignatius Church, S.W. Corydon and Stafford. If desired, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba on her behalf.
