FRIEDRICH (FRED) ZAEH July 28, 1921 - August 4, 2011 Peacefully on August 4, 2011 Fred passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, a brief week after celebrating his 90th birthday at home with his family. Predeceased by his wife Marta in 1993, he will be dearly remembered by his daughter Irene (Bernd), grandson Peter (Kelli), and family in Germany. Dad was born in Herrlingen, Germany and in May, 1954 Dad and Mom, along with their then two year-old daughter boarded the MS Neptunia to start a new life in Canada. After several tough years of mastering the basics of the English language, and trying to find a job, Dad's strong sense of responsibility and self discipline, and Mom's resourcefulness ensured their lives continued to move forward in a positive way. Dad spent most of his working career as an electrician with Comstock. He was a hard working, diligent, and detail conscious person, which was reflected throughout his life. In later years, Mom and Dad moved to a larger property in East St. Paul. They both loved the gardening, flowers, birds and regular little wildlife visitors, all of which were looked after in their own way. Until a few days before his passing, Dad lived there and enjoyed his home, with the increased help of homecare workers. Thanks to Tam, nurse Anne, and the Homecare team who made this possible for him. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and regularly spent winter months in their beloved Hawaii. After Mom's passing, Dad and his friend Luise continued these trips for a few more years. Another favourite place has always been Birds Hill Park. Almost daily, year-round visits there, regardless of weather, he knew all the trails and all the regulars' at The Ranch , a favourite coffee stop after walking the trails with his friend Heinz, something they did up until last year. Fred was a remarkable man, Father, Opa, Mentor, and Friend and we will keep his memory fondly embedded in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held at Klassen Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's memory may be made to Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street, Winnipeg, MB R3G 1Z5. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. - 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.klassenfuneralhome.com
