HILDA AMANDA FISCHER 1934 - 2011 Peacefully, on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, Hilda Amanda Fischer (nee Schmidt) went to be with her Heavenly Father and now awaits her bodily resurrection, together with other Christians. (John 5:28; I Thessalonians 4:16). Hilda was born on January 8, 1934 in Waldersee, MB, where she grew up on the farm of her parents, John and Lydia Schmidt (nee Dreger). She moved to Winnipeg when she married Edward Fischer on May 24, 1952. They made their home in Winnipeg where they raised their children Ingrid and Daniel. Their first child, Laura, died in infancy. Hilda focused on her home and family. After raising her children, she enjoyed working at The Bay Unicity. She was an accomplished seamstress who sewed for family and friends. She particularly enjoyed sewing Barbie fashions for several generations. Hilda was active at Grant Memorial Baptist Church for many years. She was involved with various committees within the church community and was always willing to contribute her time to serve at church events. She and husband Edward often greeted visitors at the church doors on Sunday mornings. She also took pleasure in looking after children in the church nursery during services. She leaves to mourn her husband Edward, of 59 years, daughter Ingrid, son Daniel, brother Alvin Schmidt (Carol, his wife) of Jacksonville, Illinois, sister Trudi Stigge of Ponca City, Oklahoma, sister-in-law Maria Schmidt of Dryden, Ontario, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
