Date of Passing: Aug 05, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALASTAIR (AL/SANDY) GRAHAM FRISKEN It is with deep regret and sorrow that we announce the passing of Al Frisken. He passed peacefully in his sleep on August 5, 2011. Al put up a brave fight against cancer and struggled for 18 months against the ravages of the disease. He was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and John. He is survived by his brother Roderick (Leslie Walsh), his sister: Valerie (Pierre Tessier) and sister Ainslie (Ray Kuryliw). He also leaves to mourn his nephews: Iain and Ivan Frisken, John Walsh, Marc, Philip and Paul Tessier, his aunt and uncle: Jean and Leo Clarke, their children and their families, his aunt and uncle: Dorothy and Fred Waugh. Many friends and co-workers will also mourn his passing. Al grew up in St. James and attended Robert Browning, Sansome and Sturgeon Heights schools. He attended Red River College in 1986 and graduated with a certificate in business accountancy. Al was employed by the government of Manitoba and worked in several departments over the years. At the time of his diagnosis he was working for the department of Energy and Mines. Al had a wide group of friends. He was often seen with them at the Silver Heights Restaurant, Smittys in Westwood, The Assiniboine Inn, the Viscount Gort, the Kirkfield Hotel and the St. James Legion. He enjoyed numerous trips with his friends to Mexico and enjoyed teasing them about their adventures. Al had an incredible sense of humour and retained his wit throughout his illness. Over the years, Al was a member of Rossmere Golf course, a Bombers season ticket holder, and played pool in the Aactive Pool League. Our thanks go to the staff and volunteers at the Grace Hospice for the love and care they demonstrated over the five months Al resided at the hospice. They consistently went above and beyond the call of duty. We would also like to thank others involved in his care and treatment: the Grace Hospital Cancer Centre, CancerCare Manitoba and Palliative Care at Riverview Hospital. A celebration of Al's life will take place on Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Assiniboine Inn from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Salon A. We will raise a Bud in his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al's memory to the Grace Hospital Hospice, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. Farewell Sandy, you will always be in our thoughts and memories!

Still think of you my old friend...I hope your soul is peaceful, you sure had a good heart. I'm not sure if there's a grave and I didn't ask at your farewell...but if so I hope to find it and go visit. - Posted by: Monika (Coworker ) on: May 31, 2017

Sorry for your loss. For some reason I got to thinking about the time, a long time ago when my family lived on Manitou Bay in Winnipeg. I googled Alistair Frisken and discovered this sad news.
