BEATRICE (BEA) GERTRUDE STANLEY October 28, 1921 - August 3, 2011 Bea died peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 in Red River Valley Lodge with her daughter Marilyn at her bedside. She was predeceased by her husband, Gord in 1996, her elder son, Keith in 1983, her daughter-in-law, Shelagh in 2004, and her sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Bob Riddell in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Nazar (Dan), her son Barry (Emmie), her grandchildren, Kevin Stanley, Peter Nazar, Jane Emberly (Brad), Ryan Stanley, Rosalee Richardson (Ryan), her great-grandchildren, Cole and Hayley Emberly, and her brother Les Goddard (Mary). Before her marriage in 1944, she entered the work force as a City of Winnipeg employee for five years. Twenty years later, after raising her family, Bea re-entered the work force with employment at the B.D.I. ice cream shop for one summer, followed by 15 years as a dental receptionist. Bea was a long-standing and dedicated member of St. Alban's Anglican Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Cub leader, an Altar Guild member, and played an active part with the St. Alban's Quilters. She was also an honorary lifetime member of the Golden Retriever Club of Manitoba, as well as an avid bird watcher. Her love of animals, especially the Goldens, which she trained so well in utility and obedience , was an integral part of her being. In her later years, Bea knitted literally hundreds of pairs of slippers which were donated to the Christmas Cheer Board. Bea accepted and saw the best in everyone and was universally liked in return. She exemplified positive interpersonal relationships. Those who knew her knew that she embodied an exceptional joie de vivre , which anchored her family. Her love of all creatures, people and animals was, in part, manifested in her organizing and participating in the summer street closings of Jubilee Avenue and in the running of the unofficial, all inclusive dog shows as part of the festivities. Bea's family deeply appreciates and extends its gratitude to the exemplary staff of the Red River Valley Lodge for the excellent care shown her for the past three years, and for the loving, heart-felt palliative care given her during the last two weeks of her life. The funeral will take place on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. with Reverend Canon Donna Joy presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Red River Valley Lodge, Box 507, Morris, MB R0G 1K0. N.B. Please specify that the donation is to be used ONLY for the needs of Red River Valley Lodge.
