STEVE SMIKLES It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our Dear Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. On August 8, 2011, Steve Smikles, of Rembrandt, MB, passed into the hands of our lord at Boundary Trails Health Centre in Morden, MB. Dad was born on December 1, 1926 to Klym and Wasylina Smikles of Rembrandt, MB where he grew up on the family homestead with his three sisters. His first job was with Arnasson Dairies delivering milk in the Gimli area. In 1948, he married Teenie (Tekla) Pastuck and for a short time lived in Winnipeg and worked at Canada Packers, C.P. Rail and Building Products. In 1951, they returned to the farm to raise their family. Evenings and weekends were filled with laughter and regular visits of family and friends. Dad and Mom were married for 29 years until her passing in 1977. Dad continued farming and in 1981 married Joan Maksimchuk and they were together for the next 24 years, until her passing in 2005. Dad loved the outdoors and in later years could be found sitting outside taking in the quiet surroundings. His main interest and love were his children and their growing families. Regular family visits and phone calls will be deeply missed. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Klym and Wasylina, wife Teenie, wife Joan, sisters Ann Mainland and Nellie Fedorchuck (Skiba), brothers-in-law Stanley Ewaschuck, Joe Skiba, Earl Mainland and Bill Fedorchuk. Dad is survived by daughter, Linda (Kent) Winning, sons, Larry (Marilyn) Smikles and Wayne (Angela) Smikles; grandchildren, Melissa Winning, Alexis (Jay) Andrews, Kyle (Courtenay) Winning, Layne (Alastair) Fogg, Brady Smikles (Jen Hayward), Riley Smikles, Natasha Smikles (Magnus Mason), Andrew Smikles, Nadya Smikles; great-granddaughters, Isabelle Winning and Arleigh Andrews; beloved sister Myrna Ewaschuk, and numerous nieces and nephews.
