Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYDNEY RUTH URSCHATZ (nee KEMP) April 28, 1942 - August 5, 2011 With deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Sydney Ruth Urschatz after a brief illness at the age of 69 years. Left to cherish Sydney's memory are her husband Gerald; children Craig (Angie), Victoria (Terry), Erik (Alana); brother Fred; cousin Kay; stepchildren Jeff (Heidi), Dustin, Alison (Lyle); grandchildren Ryan, Jade, Madison, Jack, Brett, and Lane, as well as her beloved cats. She was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Hazel Kemp. Growing up in the River Heights area Sydney graduated from Kelvin High School. She further went on to achieve her teaching certificate. In 1962 she married and started a family, welcoming three children. Sydney was a loving and devoted mother. Together, the family enjoyed many fun summers at Wanasing Beach and Falcon Lake. As her children grew she acquired her first business, selling needlepoint crafts and gold jewelry with M N Needlepoint. She met her second husband Gerald Urschatz in 1990 and he became the love of her life, also expanding her family to include stepchildren. Sydney and Gerry enjoyed many new and exciting experiences together. They opened and operated the Tuxedo location of Merle Norman Cosmetics. In 1992 they built their beautiful lakefront summer home at Steep Rock Beach. Together they built lasting memories through frequent travel, summers at the lake, and relaxing in their Charleswood home in their retirement. Sydney was known for her delicious cooking, her great advice, her quick wit, her unique sense of humour, and her incredible sense of style. She loved fashion and loved to shop. She never failed to find the perfect accessory for any room Sydney decorated. She was a proud and beautiful woman, and at all times looked spiff for any occasion or celebration. She was inquisitive, witty, and always hospitable. Sydney was an enthusiastic reader and lover of books, a passion she passed to her children. She loved all animals, especially her cats, and encouraged her family to show love to all living creatures. She was a strong woman and fiercely dedicated to her family. In compliance with Sydney's wishes, no Funeral Service will be held. A Private Celebration in her honour has taken place. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the care teams of 3 South and ICU Grace Hospital and MICU Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion during Sydney's illness and her family's grieving. In lieu of flowers, please donate to RESCUE Siamese and Stray Cats Shelter of 960 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3R8, or an animal-friendly charity of your choice. Sydney wished to convey a message to all who knew and loved her: I am not dead, merely moved to other realms. I live in you and wander through your dreams. Love Sydney (Mom)
