BLAYNE CAMPBELL SMITH In a celebration of life, Blayne Campbell Smith was laid to rest on August 4, 2011. He passed away at Deloraine Health Centre on July 30, 2011. Blayne was born in Deloraine Manitoba, March 13, 1934. He spent his entire life in the area devoted to the betterment of the Deloraine community. As well as serving as Councillor and mayor for 15 years he was also involved on many local boards. Blayne was licensed as a funeral director in 1954. Following in his father's footsteps, he became a second-generation funeral director at Smith Funeral Home. Blayne was a kind and gentle man, providing total commitment and compassion to the many families he served over the years. Dad's life was not all work and no play: his greatest love was family. He truly was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandpa and brother. His greatest joys revolved around his family's achievements and day to day activities. Dad delighted in hearing of his grandchildren's many activities as well as the highlights and goals reached by each of his three children and their families. The memories of Dad will easily surface when we see his children and grandchildren carrying on with their lives. Dad looked forward to cottage life and his many lake friends. In the fall, he loved to hunt with his buddies and these outings provided a special bond between Paul and Dad. He also looked forward to the summer get togethers that reunited his early childhood friends. In the course of his life, Dad never took for granted the everlasting value of the friendships provided to both he and Mom. His happy smile, his great wit and humour, and the love of a good time with friends and family will remain in our memories. Blayne is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Irene; daughter Alana (Rolf Langelotz) of Winnipeg; son Paul (Janice) of Killarney; daughter Kendal (Ronan Doherty) of Trinidad and four very special grandchildren; Payton, Anya, Geena and Wyatt. A sister, Lucille (Stan Lawrence) of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law Shirley Mitchell of Brandon and Marion Brigden of Napinka, many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless good friends. Blayne was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Erma Smith of Deloraine; brothers-in-law Allan Gould of Napinka; Cliff Mitchell of Brandon and Bill Brigden of Napinka. A memorial service took place on Thursday, August 4 at Deloraine United Church. Private Interment followed at Del Win Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Deloraine Health Centre for the care and kindness extended to our husband, Dad and Grandpa. Friends who wish, may make a donation in memory of Dad to the Deloraine United Church, Deloraine, Manitoba, R0M 0M0 or to the Deloraine Health Centre, Box 447, Deloraine, Manitoba, R0M 0M0. By love and compassion Dad touched the hearts of many. Smith Funeral Home www.wheatlnd.com
