ERNA SCHEERLE (MATTNER) April 19, 1921 - August 8, 2011 Predeceased by her husband Ernst in 2003, son Horst in 1989 and siblings Ludwig, Edith and Luzinka. In her 91st year our beloved Erna has entered into eternal rest. Left to remember this gentle lady are son Peter (Lesley), grandsons Cameron and Bradford, Horst's widow Cheryl Thorne and grandchildren Kelly and Kevin, also six great-grandchildren. Ernst, Erna, Peter and Horst emigrated from Germany in 1954 and made their lives in Winnipeg. There were a close and loving family, and badly shaken by the early, accidental death of Horst in 1989. Our dear Oma was one of the world's kindest and most loving of people with a sparkle in her eyes and a welcoming smile of unconditional love. Sadly, she was robbed of her wonderful personality by the onset of Alzheimer's in her mid 70s. But the sweet and trusting person she was will be cherished in our memories. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Bethania Personal Care Home for all the years of comfort and kindness given to our dear Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As long ago arranged, cremation will take place and no service will be held.

  • I met Erna when I was 16 years old and in grade X.. Horst and I became high school sweethearts and the Scheerle home was where we spent most of our spare time...Erna was always smiling..always Joyful, always Kind..She always encouraged me..showered me with affection..She taught me to cook and she made my graduation dress for me and knit me sweaters and gave me jewellry and when two school kids didn't have enough gas money...She smiled and winked and handed Horst a bill...Love is what she exemplified...I met her years later when she was ill in the hospital....I spoke to her...After a few moments, tears rolled down her face...She remembered me...It came back for a moment and I will be forever grateful for having this family in my life and particularly my second Mom....Erna Scheerle...Rest in Peace Dear one..Dear ones... - Posted by: Lynda Whitlock (nee Vanderhorst) (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2012
