Date of Passing: Aug 06, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK LEE HOBBS 1953 - 2011 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Frederick Lee Hobbs on August 6, 2011. Fred's memory will be cherished by his children Cory (Dani) and Chrissy (Gareth); grandchildren Braeden and Paige; brothers Gary (Eileen) and Greg; niece Sherri-Lynn (Judd); nephew TJ (Alice), as well as numerous extended family members and friends. Fred was born in Deloraine, Manitoba on May 21, 1953 and moved to Grand Rapids where he lived most of his life. Fred was brought up to have a strong work ethic that he put to use devoting his life to the family business, Hobbs Resort. He was a passionate outdoorsman who found endless ways of living off the land through hobbies like fishing, hunting, trapping, guiding and carving antlers and driftwood. A true man of the north, Fred loved to use his camera to capture the true beauty of nature, taking photos of the magnificent outdoor scenes that he treasured and respected so much. One of Fred's favourite pastimes was sitting around a campfire sharing good laughs and telling stories with friends. Fred also enjoyed listening to good music, reading books, and kicking butt in Trivial Pursuit. Fred's kind, gentle, generous spirit and one of a kind smile will be fondly remembered by many. Time has taken me from you, Although not very far. I'll be watching through the sunshine And through the brightest star. I'll be watching all of you, From the heavens up above. So take good care of each other And carry all my love. If you're ever wondering if I'm there, Here's where you can start. Take a look inside yourself Deep within your heart. I'll always be your father, Your brother, your best friend. So anytime you need me, Close your eyes I'm back again. Cremation has taken place and an informal Celebration of Fred's Life will take place at Hobbs Resort on August 20, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. where family and friends can come and share their favourite stories and photos of Fred.

I met Fred in 1989 when I was posted to Grand Rapids with the RCMP... we instantly hit it off and this began a friendship that lasted to his last days. I was always impressed that even though he lived in the bush he was one of the best read people I have ever known. We spent a thousand hours together hunting moose out on the lake, sledding in the winter listening to music at his place or mine and tilting a few! We were brothers in the truest sense of the word always staying in touch and visiting each other no matter what detachment i was transferred to. I still think of you often Fred even after all these years since your passing. Some day when we finally meet again we will boat out to Herman's camp once mire, share some laughs and shoot a moose one more time. Miss you buddy. Fred was a great outdoors man friend and family man. I meet Fred over 30 years ago. And would see him often when I would go upto Grand Rapids. But please know he is not the only great man, that loves kids and will spend the time with you telling all kinds of stories. His brother Gary lives up there in his cabins resorts there is always one open for you and the family. At Pine Grove. The Hobbs family are very special friendly people that have tons of stories to tell if you just ask. - Posted by: judy williams (friend) on: Mar 28, 2013

I met this man and his wife at the Quality Inn on Grant in Winnipeg. Out of the blue he began to conversate with me and my friend. He invited us out to the resort so I may bring my children, sound like he loved kids. This man will forever be in my memories even if I only met him one night. Wish I had been able to make it out there... Rest in peace. - Posted by: Pablo Ventura (One time meet) on: Mar 19, 2013

Was shocked to hear Fred passed. I've planned a trip to Hobbs resort this June and am bringing a grandson for his first experience there. I only regret he won't meet Fred. I will make a toast during the upcoming trip to a man I respected! - Posted by: Larry Leshovsky (friend) on: May 23, 2012
