JOHN DOWLER October 13, 1932 - August 11, 2011 Suddenly, after a short illness, John went to be with our Lord and risen saviour, Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 11, 2011. Beloved husband of 54 years to Gayle (Miller) and father to son Brad (Elisabeth Weeks) and grandsons Caleb and Carl, son Tim (Tami Headings) granddaughter Cheyenne and grandson Lane. Predeceased by son Todd, infant daughter, and his father (Ivan) and mother (Iona). He is survived by his brother Graham of Meadow Lake, SK, sister Judy of Victoria, BC and brother Dan of Winnipeg. John worked 30 plus years as a cattle buyer for Canada Packers before becoming an independent order buyer. He traveled throughout rural Manitoba and made friends with everyone he met. It seemed that he knew everyone and that everyone knew him. In addition to his proficiency in buying cattle, John was a successful owner and trainer of thoroughbred racehorses at Assiniboia Downs. He was also very active in his church, and served on the Riverton Feeder CO-OP and HBPA boards. He loved watching football, especially the CFL. A lifelong supporter of the Blue Bombers and frequent season ticket holder, he has in recent years complained of their record and asked when it would be our turn . Well Dad, with the Bombers at 6-1, maybe this is the year. Most importantly, Dad was a man of great faith and generosity. His fervent desire to spread the Good News resulted in him sharing why Jesus was so important in his life with anyone that he met. Through his sometimes over the top demeanor (he was larger than life), many came to know the Lord. John also had a burden for helping people. Family, friend, or stranger, it made no difference. All were blessed by his sacrifice and helping hand. It is without doubt that he is now in Glory making many new friends and learning their life stories. Funeral service will be held at the Oak Bank Baptist Church, 26033 Springfield Road, Oak Bank, MB, on Thursday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Union Gospel Mission, PO Box 1073 Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C-2X4. Funeral arrangements entrusted to; Rock Fontaine Funeral Director Honour-Respect-Dignity In Winnipeg 223-2576 or toll free 1(866)499-2601

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We mourn the passing of our good friend, John Dowler. What a privilege to have been neighbours for many years in Springfield; also to have shared so many precious times in Christian fellowship. We are experiencing great loss BUT we do not grieve as those who have no hope - our loss is heaven's gain. John being absent from his body is present with his Lord Jesus Christ. With love to the Dowler family - Nat & Dorothy - Posted by: DOROTHY LOWE (Friend) on: Aug 15, 2011
