JOHN WAYNE MARKOWSKY P.Eng., M.Sc., M.B.A. 1946 - 2011 It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of John on August 9, 2011 at the Riverview Health Centre, following a valiant struggle with cancer. John was born September 7, 1946 in Prince Albert, SK, the youngest son of Rev. Fred and Ruth Markowsky. Predeceased by his father and mother he leaves behind to celebrate his life and mourn his passing: wife of 35 years Jan (Newton); daughter Stacy Fuller (Brad); sons Tyler and Matthew; grandchildren Kacia and Micah (Fuller); siblings Fred, Donna, Faye and many more family and friends. John fulfilled his life with passion and purpose. Thriving on challenge and adventure he loved and dedicated himself to family, work, music and sports. An avid golfer, and outdoorsman throughout his life, he took up Iron Man sports later on and was a faithful spectator and supporter of his children in their chosen sports of hockey, biking and swimming. John shared his love of music by playing guitar and singing at home, around a campfire or with fellow members of the Harvard Street Band. John obtained his Civil Engineering degree from University of Manitoba (1977): a Master's degree in Construction Management (Waterloo, 1979) and completed an MBA and coursework for a PhD. His work was devoted to hydroelectric construction both locally and internationally. He took his family with him on contracts to Lesotho, India, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam. He recently celebrated 25 years with Manitoba Hydro. His most recent work was as Resident Manager for the Wuskwatim Generating Station developing an abiding love and respect for his friendships with members of the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Special thanks to our angel Barb and staff at Riverview.
