Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY WIEBE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Wiebe, wife, mother, daughter and sister on Thursday August 11, 2011. Left to treasure her memory is husband Leslie Wiebe, mother Katharina Funk, daughter April Deutsch (Rob), son Steve Lukacs (Lucie) seven brothers and sisters Wilbert (Sally) Funk, Evelyn (Jake) Penner, Kathy (John) Dyck, Helen (Jake) Dueck, Dave (Ethel) Stoesz, Ed (Kathy) Stoesz, Art (Betty) Stoesz and grandchildren Alisha Deutsch, Alex Deutsch, Brooke Lukacs and Julien Lukacs plus her many friends and acquaintances. Mom was predeceased by her father David Stoesz in 1948 and later by her step-father, Dietrich Funk in 1994. Mom was born September 17, 1944 to David and Katharina Stoesz on the family farm in Plum Coulee. She was the second youngest of eight children. Mom went to Winnipeg to attend college during which time she met Andras Lukacs whom she married and had two children April and Steve. They resided in BC but later divorced. Mom later married Leslie Wiebe and they resided in Osoyoos, BC until October of 2010 when they moved back to Altona. Mom was a very independent woman who was divorced in a time where this was uncommon and unaccepted. She had a fighting spirit, holding down two to three jobs at one time to make ends meet for her two children. She worked in many areas, often in high stress and male dominated occupations. Mom suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, which caused her severe pain and disability. Despite this, she always tried to do as much as she could and devotedly cared for her husband. We admired her for her sparkling personality, determination and positive characteristics. Mom always had an air of mischief and excitement that would convert the most mundane situation into an adventure. She never complained about her circumstances. She always had regrets that despite all her sacrifices that she was not able to do better or more for her family. A Celebration of Mom's life will be held at the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church on August 18 @ 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Gideons International of Canada and/or MCC (Mennonite Central Committee). Arrangements entrusted to: Wiebe Funeral Home Altona Ltd. 204-324-5404
