WILBERT SAMUEL MELVIN On Tuesday, August 16, 2011 our Beloved Father, after much suffering, embraced the waiting arms of his Savior Jesus Christ. Dad was born in Anola, MB on May 3, 1926, the youngest son of Samuel and Patricia Melvin (nee Robson). From Anola, the family moved to 167 Riverton Ave., in Winnipeg. Dad attended Annie Gibson and Lord Selkirk Schools. He was a Cub Scout and strong athlete. In 1943 at the age of 17 he joined the Merchant Navy where he experienced travel and adventure, crossing oceans and seas. When he returned home he took up the trade of Boiler Maker with C.N. It is during this time Dad also became a Free Mason. On May 17, 1947 he married the love of his life, Eleanor Olive Brady (nee Geib). They were married for 58 years. Colleen, Maureen, Noraleen and Russell were the joy of their union and we were blessed to have such loving parents. In 1954 Dad joined the Winnipeg Police Force. He was a dedicated servant for 32 years. In November 1968 Dad received an Accommodation for Bravery when at his own peril rescued a boy from the freezing Red River. Dad was predeceased by his Eleanor, his parents, his brothers George and Tom and his sisters Frances (Ogren) and Edna (Convey) (nee Orr). He is survived by his children: Colleen (Bob), Maureen (Jim), Noraleen (Willy) and Russell and his grandchildren: Shane (great-grand daughter Keira), Richard and Jaclynn, David and Jessica, Victoria and Vanessa. For more than half a century Christmas Eve was the gathering place for friends, family and neighbours. It was their gift of love to all. Thank you Dad for filling our home with love and music and dance. Home was the place to be, full of family, friends, hot tea and stories. You are our Hero! Gold Bless you. The family wishes to thank the amazing and dedicated team of the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Genesis 31-49 Mizpah John 14 1-3 A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, entrance at Donald and Graham, Winnipeg, MB.
