Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY KISCHUK It is with sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Mary Kischuk (nee Kraynyk) on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Vita Personal Care Home at the age of 94. Mary was born August 12, 1917 in Vita, Manitoba. On September 4, 1954 she married Ostap Stan Kischuk at the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vita. They resided in Winnipeg for a few years where Mary worked at a sewing factory and then at Kay's Ltd. Wholesale. They then purchased land on Hwy. 12 and opened Evergreen Service Restaurant in 1959. Several years later from the same premises, she operated the Post Office for the Zhoda area. They retired from the business in 1979 but remained living in the area till 1989. Thereafter, Mary and Stan moved to Vita, Manitoba. She was a member of the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, very active with the U.C.W.L. serving as President for 18 years. Mary was a member of the Millennium Choir and proud to sing for Pope John Paul II on his Canadian Visit. Her participation in the choir included a tour to Rome to sing at the Vatican. She served on the Vita Hall Bingo Committee for many years. Mary and Stan loved to travel, which took them across Canada and the U.S. along with a memorable trip to Ukraine. Mary was an avid gardener, a talented seamstress, enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and knitting. She is survived by her sister Margaret Baryliuk, brother Bill Kraynyk, sisters-in-law Emily, Anne and Florence Kraynyk, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband Stan, her parents Paraska and Ivan Kraynyk, brothers Wasyl, Nick, Mike, Fred, sisters Anne Trelinski, Nellie Baryliuk, and sister-in-law Georgia Kraynyk. Prayers at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, Manitoba on Tuesday, August 23. Viewing at 7:00 p.m., service to follow at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held Wednesday August 24 at 10:00 a.m. from the Vita St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment to follow at the Vita North Cemetery. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Vita Personal Care Home for their compassionate care and understanding of Mary's needs over the last three years of her life. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Vita St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church or the Vita and District Health Centre. Vichnaya Pamyat.
