JAMES EARL GOLD
Date of Passing: Aug 17, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES EARL GOLD 1915 - 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, James Earl Gold, at the age of 96 years in the early evening on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. He is survived by his wife Emily, his children, Jim (Donna), Marjorie (Steve) and Gordon (Pat), and lone grandchild Jocelynne. James was born in the tiny rural community of Radisson, Saskatchewan (of which he was quite proud), the lone child of his parents Edith (nee Wilson) and Louis Gold. His early youth was spent in Edmonton, until his family moved to Winnipeg with Prudential Insurance in the 1920s. James graduated in Engineering from the University of Manitoba, when it was still located downtown, near the Manitoba Legislative Building on Broadway. He joined the military and after training in Petawawa was a member of the Army Signal Corp. He served overseas twice during the Second World War, and survived a near death bombing experience, during the London Blitz. When he left the military, he worked at Bridge and Tank Western Ltd. as a cost engineer until 1964. From 1964 to 1980 he worked for Atomic Energy of Canada and relocated to Pinawa MB, where he served as a nuclear design engineer, supervisor, and recruiter. After his retirement at age 65 he worked as a consultant at Wardrop Company for several years designing solar computer programs. He first met the love of his life Emily at the tender age of 15 years. They were married on August 11, 1944, with first son, Jim, born in September 1945. Marjorie and Gordon followed in the early 1950s. 2011 marked the 67th anniversary of their union. Dad was an avid reader, and enjoyed his evening walks with Emily around the neighbourhood. James was very well known for his dry wit and sense of humour. Dad was a devoted husband and father, being a good provider for his family. He was very fond of his household pet cats throughout the years, Jackie, Toby, and Blue. Many thanks to the nursing and medical staff at the Grace Hospital for the comfort and care they provided in his final days. Much appreciation and accolades go to the wonderful folks at all stations who serve others so patiently at Tower 7 in the Deer Lodge Centre. Dad was a gentle, caring individual who enjoyed his work and simply put, was a good man. The family will celebrate his life in a private ceremony. Hi Ho Dad. I would like to extend my condolences to the family on the loss of your dear father, James. I have fond memories with visiting at James and Emily's home with Gordon many moons ago. Emily gifted me of a hand embroidered white and yellow table linen table cloth which she had done herself. It was a lovely dinner and I enjoyed meeting James, Emily and Jim. Such a lovely family. God bless. - Posted by: Janice Davidson (Gordon's girlfriend once upon a time) on: Jul 05, 2018
