ADINA PENNER On Saturday, August 20, 2011, Adina Penner passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Adina is survived by her sister Elma (Rollin) Reimer; brothers Milton Penner, Gil (Heather) Penner; brother-in-law John (Ruth) Barkman; and many nieces and nephews. Adina was predeceased by her parents Peter K and Elizabeth Penner; sisters Martha Rempel and Joanne Barkman; sister-in-law Marlene Penner; brother-in-law Edmar Rempel; niece Beverley Rempel. Adina was born in Steinbach on September 20, 1929. Adina faced a number of health challenges early in her life which included rheumatic fever and polio. These forced her to drop out of school in order to battle these illnesses. Her working career began at Reimer Agencies in Steinbach. After much thought, she decided to change her career and go into nurses training. This presented her with many new challenges. Adina was very determined and made many sacrifices in pursuit of her new career. She completed the training and started nursing at the Grace Hospital in 1960. Adina soon realized, after a time of nursing, that ward work was too difficult due to her health restrictions. She decided to further her education and obtained her BSc in Nursing which led to a teaching position at the Grace Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed her nursing career. She made many lasting friendships which remained meaningful even after retirement. Adina's students were always very important to her and she appreciated the kindness and respect she received from her former students. She had many good friends and was a good friend to all. She enjoyed entertaining, preparing many good meals, never to be forgotten. She travelled with friends and these memories were often shared with family Adina loved her family and made sure she was kept well informed. Family phone calls were very important to her. She cherished her nieces and nephews with real interest and entered into their activities and accomplishments. She savoured every moment of her life with determination, courage, and independence. Adina chose to trust God through the many challenges she faced. Her faith in God prepared her for her journey home. Following a family interment a memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 25, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB. We, as the family, would like to thank her doctors and nurses for their dedicated care.
