Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN JOHN (BARNEY) BARNETT With great sadness the family announces the passing of Allan John (Barney) Barnett on Sunday, August 21, 2011, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Barney was born on October 15, 1947, son of Tom and Della Barnett. He was raised in Grandview, MB, until he moved to Portage la Prairie when he was 12 years old. He was a baker by trade and was employed by Tastee Bakery and Safeway. He married Gloria Dezeng on November 6, 1972. In 1974 their son William was born and at that time Barney decided to change occupations. He was employed by the R. M. of Portage la Prairie for thirty years until ill health forced him to retire. Barney's first love was his family and his second love was thoroughbred race horses. He owned and trained many winners at Assiniboine Downs starting with his first winner Portage Boy and many more after that. The race track and the people who owned and trained horses became his second family. He loved to talk, joke and have fun, have tea with Hugh, take trips with Bob, go for rides with Ardel and Jim and visit with his long time friend Barry. In 2009 a son was born to Willie and Carol. Carver was the highlight of Barney's life and you should have seen the smile on his face when Carver kissed him and played with him. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2:00 p.m., at Hillside Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Road N., Portage la Prairie. If friends so desire, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 103 Wilkinson Cres., Portage la Prairie, MB. R1N 1A7 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 25331, Stn BRM B, Toronto, Ontario, M7Y 4R1 would be appreciated. Arrangements are by Ronald Moffit Memorial Services Portage la Prairie, MB
