JACK JULIUS KLASSEN Peacefully on August 23, 2011, Jack was called to the house of the Lord. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Irene (nee Hurtecant), and by his son Randy (Louisa); grandchildren, Dionne, Nyree (Brian), Daniel, Meghan, Jesse and Robert; great-grandchildren, Coen and Rylan, and daughter, Janice Van Dasselaar (Joe); grandchildren, Jaclyn and Tyler (Andrea), and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by infant daughter, Karen, and brothers, Frank, Abe, Julius and sisters, Helen and Mary. Jack was born on April 25, 1921, and immigrated to Canada at the age of two, where the Klassen family settled in Fannystelle and farmed. Jack joined the Air Force in 1943. After marrying Irene, Jack had acquired farmland and built a yard, as it stands today in Fannystelle. Jack farmed for 50 plus years, and in that time his passion for flying was still there. At the age of 65, he recertified his pilots license at the Winnipeg Flying Club and continued to enjoy his hobby. In his early years, Jack enjoyed curling at the local rink and traveling to warmer climates in the winter time. Jack and Irene started square dancing, and enjoyed the friendships they developed. When Jack's health started to fail, they moved off the farm and into St. James. We would like to thank the Grace Hospice, for the care they gave Jack. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrew's United Church, Elm Creek, MB R0G 0N0 or the Grace Hospice, 260 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3R5. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Elm Creek Hall. Internment to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Thompson in the Park. Rest in peace Dad, until we meet again. Doyle Funeral Chapel, Carman in care of arrangements.
