DAVID PETERS 1949 - 2011 Peacefully on August 22, 2011 David Peters passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 62. David was born in Altona, MB on June 24, 1949 to the late Wilhelm and Helena Peters. He will be forever remembered by daughters Jo-Anne (Lyle) and Donna (Robert), son Darryl (Erin), grandsons Dylan and Gavin and partner Diane. Dad will be sadly missed by his siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins and so many dear friends. Dave was predeceased by his parents and brother Bill. Pops grew up Gretna, MB with his 11 siblings where he began an appreciation for hard work with his first job; he shared with brother Harry, as the town's paper delivery duo. At the age of 17, Dave started his 45 year profession with the Manitoba Highways Department as a seasonal grater operator. Playing for the Smugglers and spending winters curling at the Gretna Curling Club were among his favourite pastimes. His career started in Gretna, then David and family were transferred to Melita in 1987 and in 1993 he was posted in Stonewall where he retired as a Superintendent in June of 2011. Dad had many passions which included us kids and his grandchildren, his 1970 Cutlass, spending time with Diane and a great love for his extended family. Pops enjoyed camping, puttering in the garage, going to garage sales, his annual trip to Puerto Vallarta and lending a helping hand whenever he could. You could find Dad every morning at one of the coffee shops in Stonewall catching up with his buddies. Pops was a generous man and would give anyone the shirt off his back without hesitation. You taught so many of us to laugh, love, and make jokes and even when faced with life's obstacles, your charm and personality never waivered. Dad, remembering you is easy, we do it every day. It's the heartache of losing you that will never go away. Thank you to family, friends, doctors and staff at the Grace Hospital for all your support during this difficult time. A celebration of life will be taking place on Tuesday, August 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stonewall Legion, 401 Main St., Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation in David's honour. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall (204) 467-2525
