LLOYD TOTH August 13, 1923 - August 24, 2011 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Lloyd passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 66 years, Irene; his four children Gloria (Dave), Sherri (Gordon), Donna (Craig), and Dean (Wanda). He also leaves ten grandchildren, Michelle (Dennis), Nicole, Dwayne (Daphne), Sean (Christine), Holly (Scott), Matthew, Andrew, Brynae (Chris), Jenna (Dan), and Jesse; and six great-grandchildren, James, Tracy, Hailey, Dallas, Tristan, and Keira. Also to mourn his passing, are sisters Matilda (Cal), Liz, and Hilda; and one brother Albert (Doreen), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Andrew, mother Agnes, brothers Dazso, Joe, Steve, and Eddie; sister Margaret, brothers-in-law Hugh and Tom and sisters-in-law Audrey and Rose. Lloyd was born August 13, 1923 in Bukyronos, Hungary. With his mother, he immigrated to Canada at the age of six, and then joined his father to take up life on a homestead in Mankota, Saskatchewan. In 1945, the entire Toth clan moved to Pine Creek, Manitoba. He married Irene Helen Pare, his childhood sweetheart, on October 31, 1945; and for the next 66 years, they were partners in many different endeavors. Their life revolved around operating both a farm and a country general store/post office in the Mayfeld district, but it also included winters cutting wood in the Northwest Ontario bush, working at a pulp and paper mill in Kenora, working at the potato plant in Carberry, trapping furs, even selling Watkins products door-to-door and cleaning the Alhambra Hotel, whatever it took to support their family. Although he worked very hard, over the years Lloyd also enjoyed a number of leisure activities. He was an active board member of the Silver Stream School District. He curled, snow shoed, cross country skied, and planned elaborate ice fishing expeditions. He spent hours at the Gladstone Seniors Centre playing bridge, whist, and shuffleboard. But his greatest love was hunting, a love he has passed on to both his son and grandson. During the last few years, he most enjoyed reading. Not one for fiction, he devoured hundreds of biographies and other works of non-fiction. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Marg Broadfoot for her support of Dad's reading habit. We know that she went out of her way to ensure that he always had new material at hand. The family would also like to thank the wonderful medical staff of the Seven Regions Health Centre in Gladstone for the excellent care and compassion they showed during the last four weeks of his life. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of his Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Gladstone United Church. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gladstone District Library Box 720, Gladstone, Manitoba, R0J 0T0. I can never lose one whom I have loved unto the end; one to whom my soul cleaves so firmly that it can never be separated does not go away but only goes before...
