MARGARET SELMA MCCLARTY (nee MILLER) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret McClarty, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and great-aunt. After a wonderful life, well-lived Margaret died peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 26, 2011, at Lions Personal Care Centre in Winnipeg. Margaret will be deeply missed by her husband of nearly 62 years, Murray McClarty; her sister, Mildred Steek; sister-in-law, Lucille Miller; children, Pamela (David) Hughes, Blake (Sheila) McClarty, and Grant (Cori) McClarty, as well as her grandchildren, Peter, Andrew, and Christopher Hughes, Megan and Davis McClarty, and Leigh McClarty. She is also survived by loving nephews and nieces, Pat, Robert, Ronald, Jocelyn, Jody, Garth, Tanis, Lindsey, John, Tom, and Nancy, in addition to numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. Margaret was predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Bertha Miller, and brothers, Ephraim and Jack Miller. Margaret was born in Germany on August 5, 1920, and grew up in Winnipeg from the age of six. She graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, and later went on to graduate from Success Business College in Winnipeg. As a young girl, Margaret's favourite job was working at Bond and Ronald, where she dipped chocolates for 10 cents per hour. Before marrying Murray, she worked at Moore Business Forms, and later, while raising her three children, Margaret served as president of the Chartered Accountants Wives Association of Manitoba. Margaret was an active member of McDermot Avenue Baptist Church for over 85 years. Margaret's Christian faith was strong and the countless friends she made at church were sincerely cherished by her. Margaret was, at various times, a member of the church's Board of Trustees, the Deaconess, the President of Young People's, and President of King's Daughters, while also playing a key role in organizing the North American Baptist Church Conference held in Winnipeg in 1970. Many of Margaret's happiest memories were of family gatherings for birthdays and special occasions, as well as glorious summer days spent in the company of her extended family on Miller Island in Lake of the Woods. Margaret was an outgoing individual, who made friends easily, and these friendships were of utmost importance to her; she was extremely loyal to them, and stayed in close contact throughout her entire life. Above all, what gave Margaret the greatest pleasure was her unspoken pride in the accomplishments of her three children and six grandchildren. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Lions Personal Care Centre in Winnipeg, where Margaret spent her final months. A Funeral Service will be held at McDermot Avenue Baptist Church at 821 McDermot Ave., on August 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will be held at the church after the service, followed by interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to McDermot Avenue Baptist Church, 821 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0T7, Lions Personal Care Centre's 2nd floor Palliative Care Lounge, 320 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6, or the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, MS107 Thorlakson Building, 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9.
