KIMBERLEY VAN ACHTE (nee WARD) We are heartbroken to announce the untimely passing of our beloved Kimberley, daughter of Dick and Pat Ward, wife of Scott, mother of Nikki, Kelsey and Kaelin, sister of Pat (Barry Dixon), Larry and Glenn, on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, while awaiting a lung transplant in University Hospital in Edmonton, only 49 years of age. Kim was born in Winnipeg December 26, 1961, the precious baby of our family. She grew up in West Kildonan attending Belmont School, Jefferson Jr. High and West Kildonan Collegiate. Kim started a career as a child care worker because of her love of children. In 1988, she began a career with the Manitoba Provincial Courts spanning 23 years at the time of her passing. Kim and Scott met in 1992 and soon Nikki and Kelsey and Kaelin came along to complete their family. Kim's girls were the pride and joy of her life. She fought so hard trying not to leave them. We loved her competitive spirit, her wicked sense of humour, her gentleness, her loving, caring ways. Kim will be deeply missed by her dearest friends Marina and Trudy, a sisterhood that began back in Belmont School; by her nieces Brooke and Allison who just adored her; by her parents-in-law Gail and Lorne; by her brothers-in-law Blaine (Sharon) and Kelly (Annette Giguere); by her aunts, uncles and cousins; by her many friends and colleagues at Law Courts; in fact, by anyone who knew her, she was that kind of gal. A celebration of Kim's life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (Lagimodiere and Fermor) Words cannot begin to express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, perfusionists and others at St. Boniface Hospital, 2nd Floor ICU, Health Sciences Centre, and University Hospital who tried so desperately to save Kim's life and offered us their compassion and support. Special thanks to cousin Linda Craig for her kindness and support in Edmonton and to the soccer families and all our friends and relatives who have helped us at this time. Thanks also to every blood donor for their gift of life. Thanks to the families who make the courageous decision to donate the organs of their dying loved ones. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Kim's memory to St. Boniface Hospital Research Dept. ICU, 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2H 2A6. To honour Kim's memory, please donate blood and consider becoming an organ donor. You never know when you or someone you love might need it. • I can not express the sadness I feel at hearing of my beautiful cousin's passing. Only yesterday it seems I was pushing Kimmy on a swing in Belmont playground. To my aunt Teash and Uncle Dick and family my heartfelt sympathy and love. Louise - Posted by: Louise Ward (Cousin) on: May 01, 2012
