Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFERYNE TAYLOR (nee LOCKE) May 17, 1928 - August 24, 2011 Feryne passed away peacefully, surrounded in her family's love on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the age of 83. It was just a few short months ago that Feryne lost Wally, her beloved husband of 58 years. Now they are united once again. She will be sadly missed by her three children Maureen (Paul), West Kelowna; Susan, Kelowna; and Skip (Karen), Winnipeg; her five precious granddaughters Sarah (Dave), Aidan (Scott), Ebony and Natalie, and Melissa, along with brother-in-law Scotty, and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her dear mom Margaret and father Clare Locke, sisters Shirley and Mildred, brother-in-law Geordie, and niece Cheryl. Feryne was born on May 17, 1928 in the town of Rossburn, Manitoba. After graduating from normal school and taking teacher training at the University of Winnipeg, she taught as a rural teacher in a one room school house. She then moved to Winnipeg, where she enjoyed being a long distance telephone operator for several years at Manitoba Telephone System. It was in 1951 that Feryne met the love of her life, the dashing Wally Taylor; he was quickly drawn to her beautiful blue eyes and zest for life, they fell madly in love and were wed on July 12, 1952. They were delighted to buy one of the first brand new homes in Windsor Park in 1956, raising their family and residing there for their entire life together. A wonderful celebration marked their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002, a joyous occasion celebrating their love and dedication to each other. Feryne devoted her life to raising her three children, and looking after her husband and their impeccable home. She instilled her high standards, integrity, love, honesty, and dedication in her children, raising them in a Christian home. A meticulous taskmaster, her tenacious spirit never gave up. She always encouraged her children to do their best, set goals and finish what they started. While she loved to celebrate the successes of her family, she was also the first to give comfort in times of need. Her five granddaughters were a source of great joy to her. She lovingly looked after her own Mom, always including her in special family occasions. Christmas, Easter and birthdays became important family traditions initiated by Feryne. Her immense appreciation of the arts included music, ballet, theatre, Folklorama, and collecting original works of art. Annual family summer holidays were fun filled at Falcon Lake, Clear Lake and later through the Rocky Mountains to the beautiful beaches of Penticton, BC. Feryne and Wally loved to travel and vacationed across eastern Canada, then to Vancouver and several times to Mexico. Together with Feryne's bright intellect and no nonsense attitude was a generous heart of gold and deep love for those closest to her. Her family was her life's work. She will be deeply missed. A Service of Thanksgiving celebrating the life of Feryne Taylor will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, August 29, 2011 officiated by Rev Sharon Miller at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg, MB. Special thanks to Dr. Skakum for his many years of kindness, and to the staff of Victoria General Hospital for their care during Feryne's final weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Huntington Society of Canada.
