BENY HANCHARUK On August 21, 2011 with his loving wife of 58 years and his family by his side, Beny Hancharuk, passed away. He is survived by and will always be remembered with love by his wife Patricia, and his sons Brian (Jennifer), Barry, Ben (Trish) and his daughter Bev (Don) Howe. Better known to his grandchildren as Papa, he will be sadly missed by Carla (Greg, Dulcee, Peyton), Keith and Leah. Missing him also, his sister-in-laws Anne (Jack) Mann and Anne Anderson, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Zaharij and Mary Hancharuk, and daughter-in-law Leata Hancharuk. Beny was born January 13, 1932 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario where he lived and worked all his life. In his younger years, dad worked various jobs until attending police college in Alymer Ontario, and was the last Town Chief of Police until ending this career in 1970. From there, dad worked for the Town of Sioux Lookout as a By-Law Enforcement Officer and Welfare Administrator, retiring in 1994. After retirement dad loved his part time job as grand puppy sitter, and loved spending time with the family pets. He was generous with the treats . Dad was a past member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3198 and a past Grand Knight. His past times were fishing, watching old movies while doing his word search puzzles; he loved cooking and family gatherings. Papa had many loving and caring qualities. He especially enjoyed caring for his family, he made daily lunches for his children and grandchildren throughout all the school years and beyond. His homemade soups, perogy parties, roast beef and traditional Christmas Eve dinners were enjoyed by all. Dad's proudest show was of course his Christmas lights, which brought Christmas spirit to many young children and all in his beloved community. His famous line was, This is the last G.D. time... but we all knew better! The following year the light show was even bigger. Ironically, we knew dad made it home when the double rainbow appeared in the sky moments after his passing. We'll miss you Papa! We'll look after the lights down here, for you will forever light up the sky! Thanks for your never ending love and support. And remember...don't take any wooden nickels! There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Sioux Lookout, with Father Mike Mahoney officiating. Interment followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Children's Hospital Research Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice through the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home, Box 1449, Sioux Lookout, Ontario P8T 1B9.
