BARBARA MARY WHITE (nee MARY MCLEOD) August 10, 1924 - August 21, 2011 Mary passed away peacefully at Richmond Rotary Hospice, after a brief battle with cancer. Mary will be missed by her loving husband John Ross White, (married almost 65 years) daughters, Karen White (Elaine Tess), Lory White, Linda Buchanan (Jamie Buchanan), and Sally White (Janice Hall). She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Billie Whitegibson and Drew Buchanan. Mary is predeceased by her parents, brother, and aunts who took Mary under their wings when she was young. Mary was born in Vancouver and spent her childhood in Winnipeg, attending Riverbend School for girls. She earned her BA in English at the University of Manitoba, and enjoyed a career in publishing at both the Winnipeg Free Press and then McClelland and Stewart. After raising their four daughters in Winnipeg, Mary and Ross enjoyed many happy retirement years in Vancouver. An avid reader and puzzler, she also enjoyed hiking and appreciated art. She gave many volunteer hours to the Richmond Art Gallery and in Winnipeg, she volunteered at MacDonald House Museum and for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Mary had a fierce sense of humour and was always the first to laugh at life or herself. Mary lived a long and joyful life with lots of interesting and dedicated friends. Special thanks to Richmond Rotary Hospice for the beautiful care they took of Mary during her final days. A remembrance tea celebrating Mary's life will be held on Wednesday, August 31, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., at London Heritage Farm, 6511 Dyke Road, Richmond. No flowers please.
