KENNETH (KEN) ALLAN HILDAHL 1950 - 2011 With great sadness, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle and Friend - Ken Hildahl - on Friday, August 26, 2011 at his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba at 61 years of age. To the community, Ken was a generous donor, a supporter of sport and a champion for the Health Sciences Centre, GD6 ward. To all of those who loved him, he was the heart and soul of the Hildahl family - a loving and devoted husband and a wise and dedicated Father who endlessly encouraged and inspired his children, extended family and wide circle of lifelong friends. He was notorious for his kindness and his desire to always put the needs of others before his own. His family, along with so many people he touched, mourn the passing of a man who was a unique, dynamic, brilliant and above all, generous human being. His lasting legacy will be the community projects he supported, and the lives he touched and helped shape through his never-ending sense of kindness. Ken was born on April 19, 1950 to Vern and Evelyn Hildahl. Ken is survived by his wife Judy, the love of his life, his sons: Jeff (Wendy), Tyler, and Jamie (Cheryl and Christian); brothers, Keith (Ellen), Wayne (Rita), Craig (Wendy), the Olson family: Ken, Carolyn (Ron), Nancy (Norman), Brian, and his numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his sister-in-law Verna (Boris), and his parents. Ken loved his work. Ken was appointed President and CEO of the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission in 2009 and enjoyed every minute of it. He had the unique experience of having worked within union, corporate and crown corporation environments. He was highly respected for his long-standing commitment to community service; his strong and effective decision-making skills, his integrity and his fairness. A community leader, Ken enjoyed the friendships he made over ten years on the Board of Directors of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers - five years as chairman. He was a Director on the Manitoba Hydro/Centra Gas Board, the Health Sciences Foundation Board, and Special Olympics Manitoba Board and was formerly on the United Way Board of Directors. Ken loved nothing more than being with family but also enjoyed golfing with his sons, fishing with his lifelong friends, traveling with his wife, and of course cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His other great love was spending time at the cottage at Caddy Lake where the family spent its summers for over 30 years. Ken and Judy loved to entertain at the cottage; a day didn't go by without someone stopping in to see their lake dad . Ken was a remarkable man who made his mark in the world in his own dignified way. He will be sorely missed by many - some who will never know how his generosity and commitment to community has bettered their lives. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m., at Immanuel Pentecostal Church, 955 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Donations in Ken's memory may be made to Health Sciences Centre Foundation, Hope Project to Revitalize GD6 , 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3A 1R9.
