Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH JOHN ACHTEMICHUK (SPARKY) April 13, 1963 - August 28, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle. Ken passed away peacefully on August 28, 2011, surrounded by the love of his family. He will be remembered by his parents John and Edna, brother Gary, niece Maxine and nephew Johnny. Ken was born in Winnipeg at the old Grace Hospital. He began school at Tiny Tots in the River Heights Community Centre, and then went on to Robert H. Smith. Kenneth attended River Heights High School until grade nine, and then on to Grant Park High School where he graduated. He attended Sunday school, Ukrainian School and Ukrainian dancing. He loved to play hockey, but spent more time in the penalty box than on the ice. Kenneth worked at MTS on Ellice Ave. for five years. After spending time in Victoria, Kenneth moved to Vancouver for three years. After he returned to Winnipeg, he got a job with Manitoba Hydro as a mail clerk in 2001 and stayed there until 2009 when his health began to deteriorate. As ill as he was, he always tried to do his best to make his dad proud. Kenneth loved social gatherings, drumming, painting, photography, bar tending and the time he spent with his friends. At the age of 10, Kenneth was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. In May of 2000 he suffered a stroke to the right side of his body. In 2004, he began kidney dialysis until August 24, 2011 and hoped for a kidney transplant, but it was not to be. He received Compassionate Care for seven years from HSC dialysis. Thank you to every medical professional and support staff for their attentive care. Also, much appreciation to Winnipeg Handi Transit and Manitoba Hydro for all your support.. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, with The Rev. Father Alexander Harkavyi officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Kenneth's memory to Canadian Diabetes Association or HSC Kidney Dialysis, 6th floor. 586-8044

This is Colin Jackin writing in from Fresno, California. Ken was one of my early childhood friends. I went to Robert H. Smith with him from Grades 2 though 6. I lived a few blocks away on 494 Montrose St. and we played together all the time. My memories of him remain strong to this day. Especially watching him play drums in the basement ! He was awesome ! I wish everyone the best in the Achtemichuk family. Sincerely yours, Colin - Posted by: Colin Jackin (Friend) on: Sep 02, 2011
