JANE WILLIAMS It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of Jane Williams, at the Deer Lodge Centre, on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the age of 94, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Jane was predeceased by her husband, Elmer, son-in-law, Brian Vandette, and brother, John McClure. She is survived by her only daughter, Ruth Vandette and her beloved grandchildren, Rachel Vandette (Tim) and John Vandette (Emily), sister-in-law Jean McClure, and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. Jane was born in Winnipeg on May 11, 1917 and lived her early life on the family farm in Brunkild, Manitoba. This was a happy time in her life because as her Alzheimer's progressed this is one of the places and times she spoke of often. After the Second World War she moved to Winnipeg to work, first as housekeeper and then as a dental assistant for the Christie Family. Jane met and married Elmer during this time and together they built the house on Bannatyne Avenue. She left work to become a mother after Ruth was born and in school she became an active volunteer at Cecil Rhode School. Sparling United Church was also a large part of her life whether it was teaching Sunday School, working for the UCW, helping to run the food bank or serving on worship committees. Jane always was there, her grandchildren thought of Sparling as grandma's second home. Another big part of Jane's life was the Williams' Family Cottage at Ingolf, first the original cottage and then her and Elmer's cottage next door. All our summers were spent there and although it probably was not exactly a holiday for her, as there was no power or running water, this is one of the places she loved. Sharing time, meals or playing cards with Elmer's family and the neighbours or just sitting quietly reading by her rock garden she found peace there. Although Jane did not see her brother and his family often after they moved to the states she always enjoyed John and Jean's visits to Winnipeg especially in the later years when they stayed with her. She loved to hear what their kids were up to, where they were living, and what their families were doing. One of Jane's greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, Rachel and John, and as every good grandma does she spoiled them rotten every chance she got, in her eyes they could do no wrong. She supplied child care when Ruth returned to work and helped mold them into the people they are today. Although because of her Alzheimer's Jane did not get to know Rachel and John as adults I know she would have very been so very proud of them. The family would like to extend special thanks to all of the caring staff at the Deer Lodge Centre, T6, T3 and 3 East for their long and wonderful care of Jane over the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Funeral Service 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Committal to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Funeral Home and Crematorium 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474
