Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE SCHMIDT Anne Schmidt (age 90) went to be with her Lord and Saviour, following a brief struggle with cancer on Friday, September 2, 2011. Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Margaret; brothers, Peter and Henry; sister, Frieda (and Ernest) Pauls, and nephew, Eric. Anne is survived by siblings, Nick (Lily), George (Rita), Vic (Vanita), Margaret (Jake) Loewen, John (Frieda); sisters-in-law, Ruth and Lena, and 29 nieces and nephews. Anne was born June 20, 1921, in Steinbach, Ukraine, immigrating to the Elm Creek area with her parents and two brothers in 1924. Anne started working at age 14, and worked on and off during the summers until age 19. She then moved to Winnipeg and began working as domestic help, while putting herself through Success Business School at night. Anne worked at Pauline Chambers, fruit picking in BC, Central Supplies, Winnipeg Supply Fuel, Mennonite Brethren College and Portage Avenue MB Church. In 1956, her parents moved to Winnipeg. Anne lived with them. while cared for them until they moved into Donwood Manor. In about 1974, Anne moved to Neuwied, Germany to work for the Mennonite Central Committee with the Umseidler. After her return to Winnipeg, she worked for M.C.C. Canada, M.C.C. Manitoba, and North Kildonan MB Church. During retirement Anne loved to travel, read and spend time with her large family and many friends; monthly gatherings with her siblings for the past 35 years were a highlight for her. Viewing will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 7 at Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 1420 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 8 at Portage Avenue MB Church. Interment will be prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or Family Life Network, available at the church.
