Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySIEGFRIED (SIEG) GERHARD MIRWALDT Peacefully on September 2, 2011, Siegfried Gerhard Mirwaldt, passed away at the Riverview Healthcare Centre. Sieg was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marlies, in 2008. He is survived by his eight children, Christine, Steven (Wendy), Patricia, Karin (Bruce), Janet (Dale), Lore (Scott), Mark (Lori) and Thomas (Colleen). He was the favourite Opa to Marlies (Mark), Pamela (Bryan), Kristy (Tim), Chelsea, Carli, Emma, Kelly (Kevin), Nick, Jane, Andrew (Ashley), Joshua (Jen), Sam, Jacob, Alex, Dustin, Jordan, Nicole, Sara and William. He will be missed by his great-grandchildren, Rainer, Evan, Marlies, Carter and Xander. He also leaves his siblings, Irene Dzinkowski, Kuno and Jackie Mirwaldt, Gunther Mirwaldt and Lore Mahayles. He will be missed by his friends and neighbours. Sieg was born in Schalau, East Prussia, on April 8, 1929. He survived war and displacement by being resourceful and hard working. He met and married Marlies in Soltau, and their first child was born in Germany. They then emigrated to the United States, where Sieg and Marlies farmed in Indiana. In 1960 they reconnected with family separated by war, and they moved to Winnipeg with their six children. Two more children born in Winnipeg completed their family. In 1963 they bought a home on Perth Avenue, where they raised their family and where Sieg resided until entering hospital in August 2011. The house on Perth was a focal point for family gatherings, celebrations, and holidays. Sieg was an entrepreneur and ran a successful mechanical contracting company, S M Plumbing and Heating Co. Ltd., beginning in 1967. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jack Nepon and the staff of the Riverview Healthcare Centre for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Avenue West. Flowers are gratefully declined.
