DAVID EDWARD GERUS After a brief illness, on August 29, 2011 David Edward Gerus of Nanoose Bay, B.C. passed away at the age of 73 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. David was born in Winnipeg, MB on November 15, 1938. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Lydia Gerus and his sister Ruth Smith. David and Ruth grew up in Elmwood and attended Lord Selkirk High School. Left to cherish David's memory are his beloved wife of 50 years, Joan, their children, Nick (Colleen), Lisa and Clint (Margo), grandchildren Amanda, Joshua, Brittany, Jack, Liam and Logan. A dedicated father, Dave was as proud of his kids and grandkids as a man could be. Dad will live on forever in our hearts and memories. Cousins and many close friends will also miss David dearly. Dave worked for the City of Winnipeg from 1955 to 1992. Upon retirement, Dave and Joan headed west and took up residence on Vancouver Island where he enjoyed building, tinkering and had just completed a new deck at the onset of his illness. He was an avid collector and hobbyist with interests ranging from target pistol shooting, stamp and coin collecting to raising birds, only to mention a few. Dave selflessly volunteered his time for many years with the Therapeutic Riding Association for Handicapped Children in Nanoose Bay. Cremation has taken place in B.C. and David's life will be celebrated in Winnipeg at a later date. Family and friends are invited to forward on-line condolences to: sandsfuneral.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dad, I miss you more than I can express. You were the biggest influence in my life until I had your Grand kids, and still continue to be as I try to teach them the morals and important things in life you taught me. Much time has passed while it still feels like just yesterday you were taken from us. We all miss you dearly and think of you every day as your influence is strong for us in all of life's little (and big) challenges. The World, its people, Mother Nature and the Animal Kingdom lost a great advocate last fall... I hope you realized how much of a difference you made to all those fortunate enough to have known you. I Love you very much and always will, until we meet again. - Posted by: Clint Gerus (Yongest Son) on: Apr 11, 2012

  • Can't begin to tell you how much you are missed. It's been almost 7 months and the pain and anguish of your not being here has not diminished but has grown with every passing day. Thank God for the memories...Shalom my darling husband of 50 plus years. As Dangerman always said - "be seeing you".... - Posted by: joan gerus (wife) on: Mar 22, 2012
