RUTH IRENE FUNK (nee KNIGHT) Peacefully on September 13, 2011, short of her 80th birthday, Ruth passed away, joining Peter, her husband of 54 years. Our Mom leaves a joyful home that was always filled with family and friends. In her final months, Mom was blessed to have had much help from all those involved in her life. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Gwendolyn, five brothers, two sisters and great-granddaughter Aubrey. Ruth is survived by her sisters, Biddy and Edna (Ed); and brothers, Hughie (Eileen), Bert (Brenda). She leaves her nine children, Denise (John), Barry (Brenda), Brenda (Jack), Bill (Nancy), Rick (Deb), Terry (Karen), Cindy (Tony), Jim (Lenda), Jeff (Tracy), her 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born in Winnipeg, September 14, 1931, Ruth grew up in Eriksdale and returned to Winnipeg in 1951 to work at Paulin Chambers. She married Peter in 1953 and their children filled her life. She later worked at Eaton's candy department. After her transplant in 1991, Ruth volunteered for the Liver Foundation. The family would like to thank the Health Sciences Centre's and Home Instead's many caring staff for their wonderful support and care of our Mom. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Monday, September 19 at 3:00 p.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive with a reception to follow. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Ruth's name.
