MITSU (MITZI) NISHIMURA (nee SASAKI) Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mitzi Nishimura on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the Grace Hospital at the age of 88 years. Remaining to forever cherish Mitzi's memory is her son, Richard (Gaylene) and their children Toshio and Kiyoko; son Jeffrey (Ruby) and their children Kelsey and Katherine; as well as by her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Frank in 1995 and all of her siblings. Mitzi was born in Sunbury, Delta, BC on January 20, 1923 and resided in Winnipeg since marrying Frank Nishimura in 1949. She was a warm, loving and compassionate mother and grandma who loved visits with her sons and their families, especially the grandchildren. Mitzi was a great cook who prided herself on making sure everyone was happy and well fed. In her later years, Mitzi resided at Thorvaldson's Care Centre and briefly at West Park Manor in Winnipeg. In compliance with Mitzi's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. A private Memorial Service and Celebration of her life will take place. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Thorvaldson's for their kindness and compassion. Thank you also to the staff at West Park Manor for making Mitzi's stay as comfortable as possible.
