MELVIN HERBERT EDEN October 12, 1930 September 24, 2011 On Saturday, September 24, 2011, Melvin passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 80 years. Left to cherish Mel's memory is his wife Jennifer; six children, Mitchell (Debbie), Malcolm, Marshall (Karla), Tracy (Steven) Shawcross, Kirsten (Kris) Kubin, Heather (Mark) Potapoff; his beloved grandchildren, Lisa, Erica, Kyle, Dylan, Tyler, Meaghan, Riley, Jesse, Mackenzie, Caleb, Cody; great-granddaughter, Caleigh; also Tyler and Hailey. Born in Winnipeg but raised in Erickson, Mel was the son of Klaus and Emmy Eden. He moved back to Winnipeg in 1966 and was a longtime resident of Charleswood. Beyond retirement, Mel's passion was his dedication and service to the Charleswood Legion, where he was a respected member for many years. He served as the President, and more recently was presented with the medal of Past Commander by the Zone Commander. Mel was also the President of the Swedish Canadian Home for Seniors and was highly involved in his community. On Tuesday, October 6, 2011, Mel's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard at Dieppe Road, with a lunch to follow in the Charleswood Legion Branch #100, 6003 Roblin Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mel's memory may be made to either CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9; the Swedish Canadian Home for Seniors, 5419 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 0G8; or the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 0G8.
