REINO KAARTINEN 1928 - 2011 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Reino Kaartinen at the age of 83 on September 29, 2011 at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB. Reino was born in Whitewood, SK on September 11, 1928. The family moved to Scotch Bay, MB in 1930 taking up a homestead. His education was received at Scotch Bay School. He commercial fished, trapped and took over the family farm along with his brothers. In 1970 he purchased a farm in the Dog Lake area and was married to Doris Blue for several years. Reino was a foster parent for a number of years and he retired from farming in 1986. At the time of his passing he was residing in Eriksdale. His hobbies were wood carving, reading, painting and his garden. Reino was a hard worker, known for his easy going personality and wonderful sense of humour. Reino was content with the simple things in life. He performed many acts of kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand to others. He is survived by his brother George (Margaret); sisters-in-law Miriam, Dolly, Harriet along with numerous nieces and nephews. Cindy (son, Justin), Gilbert (wife, Suzanne and children Chloye, Wesley), Clarence (son, Dylan) were all very fortunate to share special relationships with Reino. Reino is predeceased by his parents John and Maija (Mary); brothers; Walter, David, Albert, Peter and Edward and nephew Garry. Gratitude is extended to the staff during Reino's stay at the Eriksdale Hospital. Special thanks to Larry for being such a good friend to Reino. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Scotch Bay Cemetery with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. A lunch will follow at the Eriksdale Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital Guild, c/o Irene Sigurdson, Box 474, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0 in Reino's memory.
