JOSEPH B. FARAND It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Joseph Farand on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Kildonan Personal Care Home, at the age of 82 years. Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ollie; son Mark (Suzanne); stepson Raymond Bretecher (Linda); grandsons: Justin, Nathan and Jesse Bretecher, Sebastien Farand and granddaughter Sasha Farand. Also mourning his loss, his sister Marie Smith; his brothers: Adolphe (Marj), Gene (Ardith) and Ludger (Pearl); his sisters and brothers-in-law: Doris Onishko, Bill and Vivian Otchenash, Albert and Martha Otchenash, Pauline Otchenash, Mary and Gary Carscadden, and Sophie Winnicki, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers: Fred, Adelard, John and his brother-in-law Doug Smith. Joe was born in Waterhen, MB and grew up on the family farm in Meadow Portage. He worked on construction crews on the Alaska Highway and helped build the DEW line before embarking on a 27-year career with the Government of Manitoba Department of Highways. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Home for their kind service over the past 14 months. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Joe's memory to the Lung Association of Manitoba, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. In keeping with Joe's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, October 11, at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
