HARRY TANCHAK It is with great sadness that we announce that Harry Tanchak peacefully passed away on October 6, 2011 at the age of 73. He was predeceased by his son Trevor and brother Alec. Harry will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 48 years Mary, son Todd and daughter-in-law Kellie. He also leaves behind brothers Mike (sister-in-law Ann), Morris and sister Mary (brother-in-law Wayne), numerous extended family, nephews, nieces and many dear friends. Harry was born in Kilkenny, MB on November 7, 1937 to Wasyl and Anna (Sandulak). After a brief move to Sudbury, ON to work in the Inco mine, Harry moved to Winnipeg in 1959 and met Mary at Crabby Steve's Dance Hall and later married in Winnipeg in 1963. He was very mechanically inclined and received his mechanic's ticket in 1961. He then started work at Joy Manufacturing (later Alphair Ventilation) in 1965 and retired from there at age 65. He had a love of sports and pitched baseball for the team at Joy. He especially enjoyed baseball and hockey in which the Yankees and Rangers which were his favorite teams. Harry also had a love of gardening and took great pride in his roses, sunflowers, geraniums and lawn. He had a special spot in his heart for animals. You could often find him playing with his grand dogs and neighborhood dogs in his backyard. Dad, you were smart, strong and generous, willing to help anyone with anything. We will miss your infectious laugh and smile. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Harry to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
