SAMUEL JAMES WASSON With deepest sorrow the family announces the passing of Jim on October 4, 2011, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. Jim will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Shirley, daughters Lynne and Lisa (Paz, Jasmine, Marissa) and extended family Tammy (Heinz, Jordyn and Bradley) and David (Wendy, Kylie) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Elizabeth Wasson and his first wife, Phyllis. Over the years, Jim was involved with the Masons Shriners and took great pride in being one of the longest contributors to the Circus Daddy Fund As a young man, Jim joined his father in the recreation business of bowling and billiards. He operated Jim Wasson's Orpheum Billiards on Fort Street for decades and his was one of the first businesses in the grand opening of the Polo Park Mall in 1959 - Wasson's Bowling Lanes (now Polo Park Bowling Centre). Jim will be fondly remembered for his gentle, kind and friendly manner, that firm handshake and his gift of gab! The family wishes to express their gratitude to Jim's physician, Dr. Ray Singer, Dr. Tim Hiebert and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit (3E) at Riverview for their support and compassionate care. As per Jim's wishes, cremation has taken placed and a memorial service for family and close friends will be held on Friday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m.at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Shriner's Burn Fund (1155 Wilkes Avenue, R3P 1B9) or the Winnipeg Humane Society (45 Hurst Way, R3T 9Z9). A private interment will follow at a later date.
