Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD ROY CAMERON On October 1, 2011, Donald Roy Cameron passed away suddenly at the Swan River Health Centre in Swan River, Manitoba. He was 70 years old. Roy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 11, 1940 to parents Donald Roy and Miriam Cameron. He grew up in Winnipeg, attending Kelvin Collegiate. After he was done high school he was able to get into the broadcasting industry. He worked for CKY in Winnipeg and Ice Capades. He left Winnipeg in the early 1970s and moved to Thompson, Manitoba to further pursue his love of broadcasting. He worked for a number of years for local radio station CHTM on air in a few different capacities. While in Thompson, he became involved with the King Miners Junior Hockey Club, often doing the play by play. He left CHTM and operated as an independant businessman before returning to radio, working for NCI in Thompson. When he moved up to Northern Manitoba, he fell in love with the north and decided it was the place for him. Roy did move back to Winnipeg for awhile, but returned to Thompson to work for NCI again. It was his job for NCI that took him to Swan River, where he became involved with the local hockey team, the Swan Valley Stampeders. Roy finally retired a year ago, but did some odd jobs to keep himself busy. Roy followed sports his entire life and was always a local sports team supporter. He was an avid Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan, never missing a game on television or catching the game if he was in Winnipeg. His love of sports was a big reason for his work in radio. He also loved to travel, especially by car. He was often on a road trip somewhere. Roy was a member of the Legion and the War Veteran's Hall in Swan River. But most important, it was in Swan River that he met his companion Pat McCullough, who meant the world to him. Roy is predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind his four children, sons Donnie, Brian, Jim and Derek, grandchildren Nicole, Candice, Melissa, Jessica, Jazzmin and Ryan. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Lorna Cameron. In memory of Roy, his family, friends and acquaintances are encouraged to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
