ARNOLD ANTON DELL
Date of Passing: Oct 07, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARNOLD ANTON DELL Peacefully, Arnold was called home on October 7, 2011, after a lengthy illness. His first wife Alma Dell, granddaughter Madison and stepson Charlie predeceased him. Dad will be forever missed by his wife Edith Dell and children, Erwin (Joanne), Werner, Elfriede (Stan), Hans (Bonnie), Brigitte (Gerald), Sonya (Brad) and stepdaughter Irene (Don), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Germany, he immigrated to Canada in 1968, settling in Selkirk, MB. After finishing school in Germany, he began an apprenticeship in a bakery before being called to War at the young age of 16 and served until he was 23. Upon his return, he met and married Alma Scholer, and together they had six children. He began doing carpentry work and continued this once in Canada, where he also worked in mining in the early years of arriving here. Several years were spent working in the Maintenance Department of the Selkirk General Hospital, until his retirement, at which time he took up hobby farming and working for other farmers during their busy seasons. It was around this time he discovered his love for painting and generously gave his paintings to family and friends. He poured himself into this and found inspiration in landscapes and sunsets. After our mom passed, he married Edith Aime and instantly his family circle became larger and he now had more people to call him Opa. Edith spent everyday for the last eight months at his side in the hospital and we are so grateful that he had such devotion helping to keep his spirits up. Anyone who dad knew about his sense of humour. He liked to make people laugh and had a soft heart for others. He liked to play practical jokes due to a mischievous streak that he could not often resist. We would like to thank Ninke and Robert Schutz for their many years of friendship and support. Heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Zoppa and the nurses and support staff at the Selkirk General Hospital, who were wonderful and made the end of my dads journey as comfortable as possible. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with the Venerable Godfrey Mawejje officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Manitoba Diabetes Association. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
