GORDON DREWETT 1918 - 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Rae Drewett on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Deer Lodge Center at the age of 93 years. Left to forever cherish Gordon's memory is his niece Ashleigh, (Carolyn) Drewett-Laird (Glen); nephew Roy Drewett; great-nephew Andrew Morris all from Winnipeg; niece, Linda Blakney (Ross) of Brampton, Ontario and Patty; two sisters-in-law Patricia and Donna Drewett; other nieces and nephews-in-law; as well as special niece Shirley Skochylas from his late wife's family; and many close friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Woloshyn-Drewett in 2003; brother, James in 1917, mother, Ida in 1960; father, Martin in 1965; two brothers, Allan and Douglas in 2000; niece Sandra Bradley in 2001; sister, Marion in 2009 and sister, Norma on September 12, 2011. Gordon was born on June 23, 1918 in MacGregor, Manitoba but he grew up primarily in nearby Portage la Prairie. After graduating from grade 12 at the Portage Collegiate Institute, he went on to serve with the R.C.A.F (Second World War) Fighter and Bomber Command in England and within the North Africa theatres from 1941-1944. Upon returning to Canada Gordon attended the University of Manitoba. He was then later employed with North Star Oil Company and later with British American Oil Ltd. (Marketing Division). Later service followed with the Commonwealth Construction Company. Finally in 1960, he entered the Automotive Trades Association in Toronto, ON. He continued working in various divisions until his retirement in Winnipeg in 1980. Special interests of Gordon included golf and a variety of sports but especially enjoyed cars and of course - dogs! He was a long time member of the Winnipeg Humane Society, Charleswood Horticultural Society as well as many Canadian Legions. Gordon and his late wife loved their retirement in Winnipeg. They loved their vegetable gardens and their dog Susie. May they both rest in peace. On Thursday, October 13, 2011, Gordon's Graveside Service will be held at 1:15 p.m in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. If friends so desire donations in Gordon's memory may be made to the charity of their choice in lieu of flowers.
