MABEL HYKAWAY Mabel Agnes Quirk Hykaway died at Grace Hospice in Winnipeg on October 7, 2011, aged 92. She was born in Ignace, Ontario, on April 9, 1919. Mabel was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Agnes Quirk, her brothers Ted and George, and her sister Alice Dollis. She is survived by her brother Doug of Kenora, her sister Peggy Zachary (Larry) of Edmonton, her sisters-in-law Connie of Ottawa, Muriel of Thunder Bay, and Libby of Calgary, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Mabel graduated from Toronto Western Hospital School of Nursing in 1943, and at a later date obtained her Bachelor of Nursing Science from the University of Manitoba. She retired as Director of Public Health Nursing for the City of Winnipeg in 1984. After retirement, Mabel devoted many years to researching Hudson Bay Company connections with the Goodwin and Daniel families, and to other genealogical pursuits. There will be no funeral at her direction. Interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society or the Nature Conservancy of Canada, or another charity of your choice.
