Date of Passing: Oct 10, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARJORIE HARRIET STEWART (nee MOORE) 1920 - 2011 Marjorie passed away peacefully October 10, 2011 just a few hours prior to her 91st birthday, at Golden Links Lodge in Winnipeg, MB. Her husband Miller (Jiggs) Stewart predeceased Marjorie in 2006. They had 64 wonderful years of marriage. Marjorie cared for Miller until she was 85 years old and then moved to Comox, BC to live with family - Gloria and Torrey who cared for both of them. Thank you to the staff at the Golden Links Lodge for the wonderful care you gave Margie . Also, a special thank you to Marjorie's companions Edith, Anna (Kitkat), Ninan and many family and friends that visited. Marjorie was born in Cypress River, MB. She went to teachers college in Winnipeg in 1939. Her first teaching position was at Roland, MB where she met her lifelong friend and husband Miller. They started their life and family on a farm in Roland, MB. Although Marjorie was a city girl, she did her best to become a farm woman, but it didn't last too long before they moved to town. Marjorie always kept busy helping her husband and raising six daughters and also took in boarders in some of the homes they lived in. In 1956 they purchased the Lucky Dollar Store on Ashburn Street where she worked side by side with her husband. Marjorie loved to redecorate and work on floor plans designing their cottage at Gull Lake and renovating the grocery store into living quarters after they retired in 1980. She also loved to visit all her daughters in various cities in North America - babysitting and organizing their homes. She was a great mom and we had fun as kids - trips camping and to the cottage, shopping in Grand Forks and lots of family gatherings. Marjorie will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria Lee, Sherril and Brian Johnson, Judy and Ian Sutherland, Susan and Walter Giesbrecht, Debby and Darcy Wersh, and Gina and Tom Sarna, over 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Gloria's husband Torrey passed away in 2007, as well as Gina's husband Ross Neufeld in 2004. A memorial service will be held at the Canad Inn, 1824 Pembina Hwy. at 4:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Golden Links Lodge at 2280 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, MB R2N 3Z8.
