Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKIRK KENDAL MAYER OWEN November 16, 1977 - October 5, 2011 On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, Kirk passed away suddenly at Concordia Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his children Dominique and Gabriel; parents Peter and Bonnie Owen; grandmother Irene Mayer; sister Kathy Owen (Kathleen Owen-Hunt), brother Jon Owen (Teri Hohne), and twin sister Kimberly Owen (Jeff Ward); nephews William Reimer, James Ward, and Matthew Owen-Hunt; nieces Mercedes Derochie and Nancy Derochie; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Predeceased by grandfather Peter J. Mayer in 1983, grandfather Thomas F. Owen in 1984, grandmother Florence (Orie) Owen in 2008. Kirk was born and raised in Winnipeg, attending Ecole Centrale, Ecole Regent Park, and College Pierre Elliot Trudeau, class of 1995. He was a born athlete, playing hockey with the Oxford Heights Blues and East End Wings; baseball with the Transcona Royals, Frontiersmen of the TK Men's Slopitch League, and the Oldeyes of the John Bisson Transcona Memorial League; and field hockey with Team Manitoba. He also loved coaching his girls , the Devils Senior Female Hockey Team. Prior to his becoming sick, he worked at Domo, and various car dealerships. An avid outdoorsman, he loved visiting Clearwater Lodge, spending countless hours on the water waiting to land the big one and golfing rounds with his Dad and Uncle Mike. He also enjoyed his poker nights - staying up until all hours online with his buddies. Unfortunately he was plagued with numerous health issues, and was no longer able to participate in the activities he so loved. Kirk was a good and kind person who was always willing to lend a hand, listen, or tell a joke. Though his illnesses caused him to pull away, his friends were never far from his mind or heart. He would want people to remember him as he was and please know that he is in a better place, breathing easy, and free of pain. The family would like to extend their thanks to Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services and the ER staff of Concordia Hospital for their efforts, to Dr. Alan Ronald and the staff of the ACF Clinic at St. Boniface Hospital, and to the Home I.V. Program nurses who cared for Kirk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kirk's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Kirk's life will take place at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke St., Winnipeg Manitoba on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. with reception to follow at the Norvilla Hotel, 1763 Henderson Highway. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Kozakowski, Dustin Myron, Vinnie Pennarun, Thomas Owen, Jeff Ward, William Reimer, Jon Owen and Sean Letkeman.
