WILLIAM WALKER On Monday October 10, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer with his family at his side Bill passed away. He will be forever missed by his wife Maureen and his two children Linnet (Ron), Corey (Michelle) and his grandchildren Benjamin, and Kaela, and stepgrandchildren Joanna, Anthony, and Matt. Bill was predeceased by both his parents Katherine and Robert, four brothers, Mervin, Douglas, John, and Robert, and his sister Mary. Bill is survived by two brothers, Gordon (Phyllis), Donny (Jan), and sister in-law Dodie and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Winnipeg and raised in Pilot Mound, MB in 1923, where he stayed until he joined the 8th Canadian Field Artillery in June of 1942. Bill went overseas in December of 1943 were he served in England, Italy, and North West Europe, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Bill and Maureen married in 1958 in Winnipeg and then moved to Red Rock Ontario were Bill worked in the paper mill. In 1961 they returned to Winnipeg were Bill worked for the Toronto Dominion Bank as a Bank Messenger until he retired in 1987. Bill spent 18 years volunteering for the White Cross Guild at the Health Science Center. Bill also enjoyed camping throughout the years and spending time with his beloved dogs. Two of Bills favourite past times were watching his Blue Bombers and his Jets play; he always said that the Jets would be back. Bill also loved watching his grandchildren participate in all their activities. A special thank you to Dr. Godard, nurses, and staff on the palliative care unit at Riverview for their exceptional care and compassion given to both our dad and our family. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011 with Reverend Donna Joy Officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron, Corey, Benjamin, Gordon, Matt, and Anthony.
