LAUDINA MARIE SIMARD (nee HUPPE) Peacefully, on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, Laudina quietly embarked on her final journey to go and find her husband of 66 years, Ernest, eldest son Gerald, mother Eva, father Joachim, brother Joseph, and sisters Ann and Mary. Laudina was born on March 3, 1918, in Vassar MB, the third eldest of eight children. She marred the love of her life Ernest Simard on October 7, 1937. They went on to have six children: Denis (Kathy), Ronald (Donna), Marcel (Jeannette), Claudette (Andre) Gagnon, David (Pat), and daughter-in-law Darlene. They spent some of the earlier years of their marriage moving about before settling for 25 years on Dugald Road in St. Boniface, 25 years in Lorette, MB and six years in St. Vital. They were also blessed with 12 grandchildren - Maurice, Norman, Michelle, Christian, Celeste, Rebecca, Daniel, Philip, Monique, Rachelle, Irene and Candace, and four great-grandchildren. Laudina was a devote Catholic and donated a lot of time to the Catholic Women's League helping the community in many charitable causes. Not only did she raise her children, there was housework, the sewing (for her family and donations), the garden and their little farm. She also worked away from home in order to help with the family's financial situation. Laudina and Ernie enjoyed visiting family in Hamilton, Montreal, Victoria and Edmonton and even made their way to Australia. She enjoyed her family and loved to have them around as much as possible, especially during the holidays with Christmas being her favourite time of year. She was the hub of what held the family together and her presence will be missed. In keeping with Laudina's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
