SERIO (SERGIO) DANIEL 1930 - 2011 Tragically on September 27, 2011 Serio (Sergio) Daniel passed away at the age of 81. Sergio was born on June 10, 1930 in Caerano di San Marco, Treviso, Italy, but called a smaller town Maser his hometown. He immigrated to Canada from Italy in August of 1954 shortly after completing his military service with the Alpini (the mountain warfare soldiers of the Italian Army). Sergio took great pride in working and had a tremendous work ethic second to none. His motto was work to eat, eat to work. He worked for many years at Central Grain as a millwright. He then returned to Italy to marry Rosa in 1971. Shortly after his return he became a parcel post courier for Canada Post, a job he loved as he was in constant contact with people. He was dedicated to his job and always put in the maximum effort. He worked the Osborne Village/Fort Rouge route for most of his Canada Post career before retiring in 1995. Sergio was passionate about many things - above all his Fiat cars which made him recognizable around the city. Ferrari cars, Formula 1 racing, winemaking, gardening, the Alpini and his Italian origins were all very important to him and he loved to talk about them. He was known for his generosity from everything to shoveling neighbour's sidewalks, helping out wherever needed or sharing his homemade wine or wife's cooking. He always said he found great joy in giving rather than receiving. You usually could find him in the yard or garage fixing a car or anything that was broken - to him nothing was beyond repair. He was a good, honest and proud man who worked hard to raise his family. He is survived by his wife Rosa, children Michela (Michele) and Enzo, and granddaughter Nika. He was predeceased by his parents Valentino and Eugenia, brother Iseo and sister Silvia in Italy. He will be greatly missed by many friends, neighbours and relatives too numerous to list. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 18 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on 510 River Avenue. Viewing will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by mass. Burial will be at Assumption Cemetery on 3990 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favourite charity. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
